30TH ANNUAL GENIE AWARDS VOTING PROCESS

As we celebrate three decades of honouring excellence in Canadian film, the Academy is pleased to introduce online voting for this year’s Genie Awards!

Continuing its partnership with Zip.ca, voting members in the Cinema division will be able to view and vote for this year’s nominees on a private and secure website hosted by Zip.ca. Results will be tabulated by PricewaterhouseCoopers, the Academy’s official ballot accountants.

The nominations for the 30th Annual Genie Awards will be announced on Monday, March 1st, 2010 at a press conference in Toronto. The voting website will go live immediately following the announcement and the voting period will officially commence – the voting period will end on Wednesday, March 24th, 2010 at 11:59pm EST.

Each voting member of the Cinema division will receive unique and confidential log-in information by mail. This information will provide members access to the voting website for the duration of the voting period. Members will be able to return to the site as many times as needed during the voting period to complete the viewing and voting processes.

Please remember to log-out after each session.

As in the past, members are eligible to vote in categories related to their membership branch –
ie. Members in the Directors branch will vote for the Direction categories. As well, all voting members will vote for the following categories:
  • Best Motion Picture
  • Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role
  • Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role
  • Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role
  • Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role
Please note that paper ballots will not be issued.

The Genie Awards are based on a peer-voting system. The introduction of online voting will enhance the process by providing members with improved access to all nominated films as well as a convenient and reliable method of voting.
